Big shout out to "Scotch on the Rocks"

As part of our Monster 2008 story, we must mention "Scotch on the Rocks", a team we had great fun with, had brilliant banter and a healthy rivalry. Unfortunately for you Team Hopeless-Ness fans they won - a great time of 8 hours 3 minutes.

We'll have 'em next year!

Results in Full

I told a little porky pie there, full results are out now and are as follows:

Checkpoint - Time elapsed - Position
Blackfold (Leg 1) - 00:53:39 - 81 (out of 185)
Abriachan (Leg 2) - 01:38:24 - 95
Drumnadrochit (Leg 3) - 02:56:14 - 123
Altsigh (Leg 4) - 04:24:27 - 117
Fort Augustus (Leg 5) - 05:33:05 - 91
Foyers (Leg 6) - 07:11:43 - 141
Dores (Leg 7) - 08:02:38 - 136
Finish (Inverness) - 08:36:18 - 134

Apologies from me for Leg 3, losing an astonishing 28 places! Special mention to Fraser who powered us back into the top hundred with a great bike leg.

So there we have it, team to beat 8 hours next year? Anything is possible.

We did it!

That's right folks, Team Hopeless-Ness has achieved the near impossible, we have managed to get Gavin out of bed at 5am! No, seriously, yesterday the big day arrived and I'm proud to report that the team finished the 120k in 8 hours 36 minutes.

Full results will be published tomorrow, but for now I'd just like to say thank you to all those who have sponsored and supported us throughout. It looks as though we will raise £1000 in total which is a fantastic result.

I'd also like to thank the boys for joining this little adventure. Despite the abuse, and there has been a fair amount in recent days, I'm sure they enjoyed it really. So once the sore legs have faded and the cramp has ceased, I'm counting on all of you to get them to do it again in 2009!

Almost there.

Well we are almost there. all that stands between us and the FirstMonster is our final (and 1st) team meeting in an Inverness tavern.

There have been ups and downs in our training regime over the past few months but that is nothing compared to the hill Matt has to cycle up on Saturday:)

Thank you to all who have shown their support for this fullish venture and donated to Alzheimer Scotland.

lets not forget this stupidity and that in the end it is all Graemes fault.

Training Update

Well Mr Littlejohn. you did a 10k run and 8k back to back is that not a 18k run? good time though:)

My training has been going ok too. cycled from Inverness to Drumnadrochit and back along the Great Glen Way yesterday (v hilly). Pretty tiring and wet but at least i know I provided a 1,000,000 midges with lunch:)

I do have to say that as the 13th approaches I blame you for everything.

I only hope that we manage to raise a suitable amount of money for charity from this endeavour.

Surfing as substitute?

A question. If you are training for what is essentially a race on dry land (probably in the main if done properly), does surfing count as training? With the shark injury, surfing has been the most cardiovascular challenging exercise that i have undertaken i the last few weeks. My concern is that this will effect my performance - much as an excessive quantity of shandy effects my ability to construct complete sentences.

Talking of booze, i am now off the sauce until after the event. See, and you thought it wasn't being taken seriously! It is, i assure you. Fraser has even purchased proper cycling shoes, those fancy ones you attach to the pedals. Now that is dedication.

Seriously folks, it is being taken seriously cause it is for a great cause - and we don't want to look silly, more than we already do anyway. If you want to find out more about the fantastic work Alzheimer Scotland do then visit their website at http://www.alzscot.org/
